Market Making is the activity of making a market in a stock and this is carried out by an individual called a market maker. A market maker helps manage the daily flows of a stock and provides support on the buy-side or sell-side when is needed and often plays a passive role during normal trading activities or when volumes are sufficient
Every company listed on the TSX is assigned a designated market making firm and a registered trader by the TSX Allocation Committee. TSX market making assignments are given based on numerous factors including existing market making responsibilities and a firm’s ability to meet market making performance standards.
On the TSXV issuers are not assigned a market maker by the exchange but rather the TSXV allows the issuer to hire independent market makers to help manage the daily activities of an issuer’s stock. The policies associated with market making on the TSXV can be found in the TSX Venture Exchange Corporate Finance Manual.
The capital markets have undergone massive changes in the last 10 years. Passive versus Active, HFTs, EFT’s, Algos, Quants… we can help TSXV and CSE listed issuers navigate these changes.
A lot of market makers have 30, 40, or 50 mandates. We do not and never will. For the simple reason more stocks means less service. Our goal is to work with a select group of companies who fit our profile and to provide the best service possible to our clients.
